CORDATUS uCONSULTING                                             October 2008 Newsletter

Greetings fellow continuous improvement buffs! The Kaizen Conference in Athlone on September 18th last, provided a great opportunity for the 170 or so delegates to view the wide range of lean transformation programmes being undertaken by Irish based organisations at present. All these activities assisted Ireland to rank at 22 in the 2007/2008 (and also the 2006/2007) Global Competitiveness Reports. I wonder where we'll rank in the 2008/2009 report to be launched later this week? Meanwhile there's good news on the entrepreneurial front.

GLOBAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP MONITOR

The Irish Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) Report for 2007 found that Ireland continues to be one of the leading EU countries in terms of early stage entrepreneurship. Overall, the research found that 8.2% of the adult population living in Ireland is engaged in entrepreneurial activity, an increase on the 2006 level of 7.4%. The 2007 report also shows a significant increase in the number of women entrepreneurs, with women’s entrepreneurial activity rising to 5.9% in 2007 from 4.2% in 2006. 29TH NATIONAL MARKETING CONFERENCE: DUBLIN 05 NOV 2008

2009 is shaping up to be a very challenging year for everyone in business, and as the people responsible for driving revenues and profits, marketing leaders need to understand what we are facing. That’s why the Marketing Institute of Ireland is staging this conference on this theme at this time. The MII has brought together a panel of Irish and international experts to help us put the picture together, and to ensure that your marketing strategies for 2009 are as well-informed and insightful as they can be.
