In 1983 Toyota hired John Shook to head up its joint venture with General Motors, to be based in California. GM wanted to wanted to put an idle plant and work force back on line. Toyota faced pressure to produce vehicles in the United States. It was already trailing Honda Motor Co. Ltd. and Nissan Motor Co., which were by then building cars in Ohio and Tennessee, respectively. This year’s theme is energy efficiency in the Irish pharmaceutical, medical & chemical manufacturing sector. Attendees will include who are responsible for the energy efficiency, environmental policies and financial performance of their operation within Ireland. Energy efficiency is a key objective of the lean six sigma community in Ireland and supported by a number of sponsored initiatives such as the IDA and Enterprise Ireland’s Lean Green sponsored programmes, and UL’s Lean Energy and Water green belt programme.
