Greetings readers and welcome to the November newsletter. As the US celebrates a very historic change in leadership, the results of the World Economic Forum report on Ireland shows just how little has changed in our competitive position in the past number of years. 

 

GLOBAL COMPETITIVENESS REPORT 2008 - 2009

The top 10 countries in the global competitiveness stakes (published October 2008), as ranked by the World Economic Forum are:

1.   USA

2.   Switzerland

3.   Denmark

4.   Sweden

5.   Singapore

6.   Finland

7.   Germany

8.   Netherlands

9.   Japan

10. Canada

Ireland ranks #22 on the list, a position we have held for 4 years running.  The most problematic factors in doing business in Ireland are listed as: 1. Inadequate supply of infrastructure; 2. Inflation, and 3. Inefficient government bureaucracy. Click on the hyperlink to view report details.

 

3RD ANNUAL SIX SIGMA CONFERENCE SCOTLAND: 15 & 16 December 2008

Hosted by Professor Jiju Antony, Strathclyde Institute for Operations Management, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, this conference is aimed at senior industry staff, advisors and consultants as well as academics and will address a wide range of relevant topics covering planning, implementation and management of Lean Six Sigma strategies.
