    PROJECT MANAGEMENT

The Laws of Project Management (sort of!)

    • 1st:No major project is ever installed on time, within budget, or with the same staff that started it. Yours won't be the first.
    • 2nd: Projects progress quickly until they become 90% complete, then they remain at 90% complete forever.
    • 3rd: When things are going well, something will go wrong.
    • 4th: When things just cannot get any worse, they will.
    • 5th: When things appear to be going well, you have overlooked something.
    • 6th: No system is ever completely de-bugged. Attempts to de-bug a system inevitably introduce new bugs that are even harder to find.
    • 7th: A carelessly planned project will take three times longer to complete than expected.
    • 8th: A carefully planned project will take only twice as long.
    • 9th: Project teams detest progress reporting because it vividly manifests their lack of progress.

    project management cartoon

The ability to implement strategic and operational plans effectively is largely dependent on an organisation's ability to plan, prioritise and implement the many sub-projects that arise from such plans. Effective project management requires a mix of skills that include leadership, organisational ability, persuasive powers and political awareness of stakeholders’ agenda within the organisation, and above all ..........perseverance to the bitter end.
